Mike Coyne, President
As an expert in healthcare business strategy and development, Mike can speak on the value and tactical deployment of risk mitigation strategies that reduce spending and maximize profits. A thought leader in the industry, Mike illustrates how healthcare risk management—through the use of data analytics and predictive modeling—can improve cost metrics and benefit business strategy.
Mike joined Verisk Health in 2005 as the head of the strategic planning group with responsibility for the development and implementation of new market initiatives. Today, he is the President of Verisk Health in charge of developing and executing strategic plans that will generate revenues, create new opportunities for business, and help the company remain competitive in the healthcare marketplace.
Prior to joining Verisk Health, Mike held a number of positions at ISO. Most recently, he was a member of the corporate business development group, where he worked on acquisitions, partnerships and strategic alliances in the healthcare space. He has served as a product manager in ISO's AISG business unit, responsible for ongoing development of the company's flagship antifraud product, ISO ClaimSearch. Earlier in his career, Mike was an associate in the professional liability group Mendes & Mount, LLP.
Mike holds an MBA degree from Fordham University, a JD degree from St. John's University, and a BA degree from the College of the Holy Cross.
Nathan Gunn, MD, Chief Operating Officer
Nathan Gunn is a frequent speaker on information technologies for the healthcare industry.
He provides insight on a variety of topics, including the use of predictive modeling, risk adjustment and clinical analytics to improve healthcare quality and minimize risk and costs. Dr. Gunn’s expertise also includes medical economics, the patient-centered medical home, pay for performance and healthcare quality reporting, as well as case, wellness, and disease management.
Dr. Gunn is responsible for Verisk Health's unified back-end business and leads the product, engineering, research and development, and consulting teams. Prior to this role, Dr. Gunn was Chief Medical Officer of Verisk Health and Senior Vice President of Clinical Solutions for D2Hawkeye (acquired by Verisk Health in 2009), where he managed market and product strategy, development of clinical IP, and clinical consulting.
Before joining D2Hawkeye, Dr. Gunn completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and then joined McKinsey and Company's North American healthcare practice. As an engagement manager at McKinsey, Dr. Gunn counseled industry and government leaders in North America and internationally, focusing on provider operations and growth strategy, international health system reform and design, and private equity.
Nadine Hays, Executive Vice President
Nadine is a healthcare IT expert and can speak on a variety of topics related to risk assessment and mitigation—including risk effecting specific healthcare industry players (providers, payors, and employers) and the tactical strategies needed to improve clinical and financial outcomes. As a solution-to-market expert, Nadine can speak on the use of predictive modeling and data analytics to reduce healthcare costs, and to optimize quality, performance, budgeting and underwriting.
Nadine Hays is responsible for strategic partnerships, sales, and marketing across the several healthcare market segments served by Verisk Health. She also oversees the company's international operations.
She has nearly 20 years of experience in clinical informatics and healthcare IT, working with several leaders in the industry to introduce innovative solutions for managing the quality and cost of care. Prior to joining Verisk Health, Nadine was the Chief Marketing Officer of D2Hawkeye, a healthcare data analytics company acquired by Verisk Health in 2009.
Before leading the marketing and sales teams at D2, Nadine led the strategy and business development team for McKesson Health Solutions, the integrated care management and claims performance arm of McKesson Inc. She also served as an executive at various healthcare and software companies, including Ingenix, Iameter and National Healthtech. Nadine is a licensed attorney, having practiced as a securities specialist for several years.
Nadine has a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a JD from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, CA.
Peter Wagner, SVP of Employer Solutions
As an expert on employer health benefits, Peter can speak on the impact of health status and disease progression on workforce productivity, plan design options for a healthy workforce, and the advantages of leveraging claims and survey data to drive strategy and program measurement.
Peter is responsible for sales and strategic account management across Verisk Health’s employer market space. He is also focused on ensuring that employer benefit strategy needs (such as health and productivity data integration, reporting, and analytic consulting) are represented within the company’s product management and development process.
Peter has over 20 years of experience working with employers and their broker and consulting partners in the areas of pharmacy benefit management, wellness, and data-driven benefit strategies. Prior to joining Verisk Health, he was president of Ingenix Employer Solutions, formerly Corporate Health Strategies, working with more than sixty Fortune 200 employers over a 16 year period.
He was an early pioneer in working with employers to address rising pharmacy benefit costs by promoting retail pharmacy networks, mail service for maintenance prescriptions and managed plans for generic substitution, manufacturer rebates, and tiered plan designs. As the senior vice president of sales at Virgin Health Miles, Peter led a top business development team in promoting employee activity and incentive wellness solutions, which were designed to reverse the impact of sedentary lifestyles contributing to today’s obesity epidemic.
Peter received his bachelor of science in business administration from West Virginia University.
Jordan Bazinsky, VP Science Technology and Head of Global Human Capital
Jordan is an expert on information technologies for the healthcare industry and can speak on a variety of topics including, IT innovation, risk-adjustment and predictive modeling, healthcare system financing, accountable care organizations, as well as hospital operations and health policy and reform.
Jordan manages new product research and development at Verisk Health. In this role he oversees the application of the firm’s predictive modeling science to critical healthcare challenges, including policy reform, innovative healthcare financing strategies, and broader risk assessment solutions. He also oversees human resources and talent management at Verisk Health. He is responsible for cultivating a high performance culture throughout the firm and driving innovation in our business. He is an active contributor to industry publications and conferences.
Prior to joining Verisk Health, Jordan served as Associate Director of Strategy and New Product Development at the Advisory Board Company, a healthcare consulting firm. In that capacity he led business intelligence software development efforts and was part of the team responsible for creating the firm’s technology division.
Jordan’s experience also includes serving as a trustee on Duke University’s Health System Affairs committee. He graduated from Duke University and received his business degree from Harvard University.
Arlene Ash, PhD, Senior Scientist
Arlene Ash is an expert on the research and science of health-risk adjustment. She is a frequent speaker on the topic and has published her work in many peer-reviewed medical journals.
Dr. Ash cofounded DxCG, a unit of Verisk Health, where she continues as senior scientist. She also serves as professor at UMASS Medical School and as an adjunct professor at Boston University's Schools of Medicine.
Dr. Ash is an internationally recognized expert in the development and use of risk-adjustment methodologies and an experienced user of national research databases, especially for Medicare. Medicare has adapted her Diagnostic Cost Group models for use in HMO payment.
She is a Fellow of AcademyHealth and of the American Statistical Association, a recent Past Chair of ASA’s Health Policy Statistics Section, and a winner of the American Public Health Association Statistics Section’s 2003 outstanding statistician in industry award. She holds a PhD in mathematics and statistics from the University of Illinois, an MS from Washington University, and a BA from Harvard University.
Randall Ellis, PhD, Senior Scientist
Randall Ellis is an expert in healthcare economics, and he can illuminate a variety of topics, including payment incentives for provider quality and cost containment, the pitfalls of using predictive models for paying competing health plans, and comprehensive risk-based payment for primary-care providers.
Dr. Ellis cofounded DxCG, a unit of Verisk Health, where he continues as senior scientist. He is active as a scholar, teacher, national and international policy advisor and consultant.
He received a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MS from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BA in economics from Yale University. He is currently a professor of economics at Boston University.
