Verisk Health’s DxCG Risk Solutions Technology Ready to Support Industry Adoption of ICD-10-CM

October 17, 2011

WALTHAM, Mass. – Verisk Health announced that it has expanded the DxCG Risk Solutions suite to include greater predictive power and reporting capabilities. The product is now compliant with the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) system. The latest release also includes new models that predict emergency department (ED) utilization and measure practice variation for both commercial and Medicare populations.

“Understanding risk is the first step toward managing healthcare costs, and we’re committed to developing first-rate solutions that enable measurable results,” said Alejandro Reti, MD, senior vice president of informatics at Verisk Health. “Our latest product release is a testament to that commitment. We’ve combined proven analytical science, industry expertise, and innovative technology to provide clients the necessary insight to minimize risk and improve outcomes for their patients and their business.”

“Our new Likelihood of Emergency Department Visit model will be another powerful weapon in our clients’ risk management arsenal,” added Reti. “The methodology will facilitate the identification of patients at risk for ED utilization.  And, along with our existing models for likelihood of hospitalization and high-cost case, it will enable proactive and targeted patient outreach crucial to avoiding complications thereby reducing utilization and, ultimately, minimizing associated costs.”

The latest DxCG product release also expands Verisk Health’s Performance Assessment (PA) suite, a set of models developed to inform performance-based provider contracting and other accountable care initiatives. The PA suite is used to measure practice variation and reduce avoidable high-cost utilization, such as readmissions and outpatient imaging. Additionally, the suite now includes models specifically developed for Medicare populations, supporting organizations in their healthcare reform initiatives.

The product’s new ICD-10-CM capabilities will support clients in their efforts to analyze all diagnoses in healthcare claims as they move from the current ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM. United States organizations must update their coding systems by the nationally mandated deadline of October 2013.

Verisk Health’s DxCG Risk Solutions suite, first developed in the 1990s, is used by the healthcare community and government entities to identify and minimize risk, manage population health, allocate funding resources appropriately, and optimize care delivery and outcomes.
