Kevin, Business Analyst

After earning my A.B. in Biology from Harvard, I joined Verisk Health as a Business Analyst, drawn by the firm’s focus on uncovering clinical and financial risk from healthcare data and acting on them to reduce cost and improve care. As a member of the clinical/science team, I am surrounded by physicians and talented scientists in statistics, actuarial and computer science. The diversity of expertise and cooperative work culture ensure each day is filled with new knowledge. While projects are varied and cross-disciplinary, the knowledge I gain are of a deeply functional nature, centered on data analytics. The challenge always remains on how to pull and organize the vast amount of healthcare data available, slice and dice it to tease out trends and abnormalities, and interpret the results to provide actionable insights for clients.
As you grow and start to feel comfortable in your existing shoes, you are rewarded and pushed to step into larger roles. Verisk Health is first and foremost a meritocracy; the official job description is but the starting point of your responsibilities. Case in point: half a year into my time here I was given dual product development and project management duties, tasked with joint development of new clinical rules and impact analysis for clients, as well as monitoring of progress milestones and deadlines. Throughout the process I worked on drafting clinical logic improvements with physicians, refining them for computational efficiency with engineers and adapting the updates to the business needs of our customers with account managers. The project expanded my analytical toolkit and taught me valuable communication and people skills.
Verisk Health continues to grow and innovate at breakneck pace, and I am excited to be growing with it.
